Region Twelve Coordinator announce nominees for the four Region Twelve Yearly Awards to be chosen by the Commanding Officers of the region...
The Nomination Phase of the Region Twelve Yearly Awards have been concluded and I can now announce the official ballot for this year's nominees. First of all I want to thank all the Commanding Officers who sent nominations. We also thank all who were nominated. The Region Staff met last night and decided as a group how to proceed. Of all the awards, we had only to whittle down only the nominees for Officer of the Year from eight region members to four. Below are the nominees for the positions: Youth Member of the Year: Ensign 2nd Class Arthur H Brown II, USS William Wallace Arthur is 17 years old, is enrolled as a Junior at Joplin (MO) High School where he has been a member of the Joplin JROTC for the past three years. He currently holds the rank of Cadet Sergeant First Class and anticipates earning his Cadet Master Sergeant rank at the end of his Junior class. He is also enrolled at Franklin Technology Center [our local votech] in Automotive Technology, where he has participated in Skills USA. Arthur currently has a 3.0 GPA. Arthur was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of First Class Scout and position of Patrol Leader. Arthur has been a member of STARFLEET since his birth, and he supports his Chapter events by participating in support of the Tulsa Scottish Games (staff functions for the Games' Youth Games). Cadet Master Gunnery Sergeant Jacob Hollifield, USS Jaresh-Inyo Jacob is being nominated for all of his outstanding scholastic and personal achievements during the year of 2009. He attends Baldwin Elementary in Paragould, Arkansas, and for the entire year thus far he has remained on the Principal’s List with an average of **99** in every single class. He has also been named Student of the Month for January and Citizen of the Month for October and February. His Commanding Officer added that he is only in the first grade and has an impeccable scholastic record. He also has perfect attendance sans the inclement winter weather which everyone was excused for. Jacob has also earned the titles of RAMmarkable Reader, RAMarkable Writer, and RAMarkable Speller for receiving full marks on his reading assignments, writing exercises, and his spelling tests. This is indeed quite an accomplishment as he was the only one in his class to receive this distinction. He is active on the chapter as well. He has taken numerous courses from both academies. Speaking of courses, he is also helping me write more basic math courses for the College of Math within STARFLEET Academy AND has lent his hand on my own College of Superheroes. His Commanding Officer wishes to state that Cadet Hollifield is ONLY six years old. He gets very excited when his Commanding Officer makes mention that a new person has decided to join our chapter as well. His Commanding Officer firmly believes that Cadet Hollifield is an asset to the chapter and to the Region. Given time, he will also become an invaluable addition to STARFLEET itself. Enlisted Member of the Year Master Chief Petty Officer Robert Towne, USS Jaresh-Inyo Chief Towne is truly one of the greatest additions to the USS Jaresh-Inyo, and his Commanding Officer is indebted to him for deciding to join our crew. He has been in service to STARFLEET since 1997, but I truly believe he started to flourish once he arrived here. Chief Towne pulls double duty as Master Chief of the Geophysics Department in the Sciences Division. He submits articles and things of scientific value to the chapter list almost daily, and he was one of the first to send in his newsletter articles. His love for science is prevalent in all he does. Chief Towne is also a member of the Jaresh-Inyo's command staff in the billet of Command Master Chief. He is responsible for liaising with all of the enlisted personnel aboard the chapter, making their needs and wants known to the command staff, and ensuring my directives and those of the command staff are carried out posthaste. Chief Towne is an awesome administrator and a valued leader on my chapter, and his Commanding Officer is grateful for his services everyday. He is also responsible for the recruitment and transferal of six members to the ranks of our chapter. His Commanding Officer said previously, Chief Towne is an invaluable asset and we are indeed fortunate to have him on our chapter. Officer of the Year Lieutenant Commander Allen Hurtt, USS FireFox Allen is very instrumental in the operations of the FireFox chapter. He plans monthly meetings, helps to organize events for the chapter. He has done amazing art work as far as the designs for our chapter logo and the plans and schematics for the ship. The plans he worked on and cleaned up provided me with a tool to make chapter t-shirts and to add description of the ship and capabilities to the members of the chapter. He also files the Reports for the MSG to take the pressure off of me and allows me to spend extra time on my region staff position. Allen made all the signs and decals to decorate my truck for the Ozark Christmas Parade in witch we won 2nd place. With a strong XO like Allen I would not be able to do the high intensity work on the region staff and a moderator for the Fleet list. I feel he is very deserving of this award and will continue to strive for excellence in the workings of the chapter and the region. CMDR John J Harwood, Jr., USS William Wallace John has such a love for things Star Trek that he could be the envy of almost anyone in STARFLEET. He has been a steadfast member of the USS William Wallace since it was a pipe dream. (By the way, that was in 2001.) John is happy to serve as Executive Officer of the William Wallace, despite withstanding severe medical problems such as heart attacks and strokes. He, with his wife and children, are the cornerstone of the William Wallace, as well as "plank owners". Last year, John and I were interviewed by the local newspaper, the Joplin Globe, when the latest Star Trek movie came out. We both got our photographs in the paper, along with many collectives from John's personal collection. The article can be found here: http://www.joplinglobe.com/siteSearch/apstorysection/local_story_127120309.html In the picture, John is in the blue shirt on the left. Commander Alan Dawson, USS Jeannette Maddox Commander Dawson has been the silent back bone of the USS Jeannette Maddox. In 2009 Alan was the only member of Starfleet that answered the Commanding Officer last minute call to man the Salvation Army Angel Tree. The organization that was scheduled to man the table had to cancel and Alan with no prior notice graciously volunteered his time to help the Salvation Army in their time of need. In addition to his work on the USS Jeannette Maddox Alan has also volunteered his time and effort the the Union Rescue Mission, a local shelter and the Chivalry For Children, a youth program that teaches children and young adults the concept of chivalry. Lieutenant Colonel William Hof, USS Black Hawk Lieutenant Colonel Hof has been a major force aboard the USS Black Hawk, serving as both the Chief Operations Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of the 263rd Marine Strike Group, The Hawk's Talons. Colonel Hof represented the Senior Vice Region Twelve Coordinator, at the request of the Region Twelve Coordinator, as her proxy during the 2009 International Conference. Since IC2009, Colonel Hof has joined the staff of the SFMC TRACOM, the SFMC Academy and assists Lieutenant General Michael Malotte in his duties at STARFLEET Academy. Colonel Hof has also be prolific in taking courses offered by STARFLEET Academy, as well as the SFMC Academy. Mr. Hof has also authored a recruiting video for the USS Black Hawk (which can be found at http://ussblackhawk.org) and the SFMC. For his hard work Hof was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was chosen as the USS Black Hawk's Member of the Year. Due to his durability and enthusiasm duty within STARFLEET, Region Twelve, the SFMC and the USS Black Hawk, Lieutenant Colonel William Hof was selected by the Officers and Crew of the USS Black Hawk for nomination as the Region Twelve Officer of the Year. Flag Officer of the Year Brigadier General Gary Hollifield, USS Jaresh-Inyo As a member of the region staff Gary helps out lots of new chapters. His work as the Region Twelve Shakedown Operations Officer is unsurpassed. His knowledge is truly amazing he has answers for a lot of questions. Anytime the Shakedown chapters need help Gary is always there to lend a hand. He works hand in hand with the Region Recruiting office. He is constantly helping other Regions out on problems also. He has completed over 850 courses between SFA and SFMCA. He completes tasks given to him in a timely manner and never asks for his work to be recognized. He has accomplished so much in so little time in his STARFLEET life as well as his personal life. We really can not imagine how we would operate with out his help and support. Again, thank you all for your duty and patience. The election phase will begin immediate and will conclude on April 4th. All COs active as of today are eligable to vote on these awards.
